Our 4th of July Party Planning List

We're all about collections over at Provisions -- and we don't want you to miss out on the fun.

Today: Get out the sparklers! We're planning ahead for the Fourth of July.

Shop the Story

Tell us, what’s not to love about eating, drinking, and fireworks? That being said, as people who love to cook, there's often much party-planning to be done for the Fourth -- whether that means a lunchtime picnic or a nighttime backyard barbecue.

When we planned our collections for our Provisions shop, the Fourth was an obvious choice, because we all want help making it easier to celebrate (and host) with no stress. What follows are some of the most clever and useful products we found -- so when it comes to entertaining, you can have your (flag) cake, and eat it too!

Compostable dinnerware: We don’t love the look (or the feel) of plastic and paper plates and forks, but we’ve never found an alternative we really liked until now. Plates made from fallen leaves are pretty and compostable, and wooden biodegradable flatware comes in stars, stripes, and polka dots -- so we can be eco-friendly and festive all at once.

Raspberry syrup: Snow cones are a favorite quick and easy dessert for a crowd amongst Food52 staff -- and this raspberry simple syrup (made with real raspberries and Meyer lemon) means no advance planning. Just pour it over shaved ice, and serve.

Range smart digital thermometer: Timing is often a problem when cooking for friends. You want to be outside socializing, but you have to watch your chicken, or your roast, or your steak. This brilliant thermometer takes care of that -- it’s got a 4 1/2-foot cable that attaches to your iPhone or iPad and will alert you (and can send remote alerts to any device!) when your food comes to temperature. Nifty, right?

Head over to our Provisions shop to see the entire collection, including a seersucker tablecloth, chambray linen cocktail napkins, and a glass drink dispenserAnd keep a lookout on the site soon for the flag cake recipe and tutorial!

I like warm homemade bread slathered with fresh raw milk butter, ice cream in all seasons, the smell of garlic in olive oil, and sugar snap peas fresh off the vine.
