I would put a lemon meringue/coconut cream pie in the Pie Box. The lemon layer goes in first, then the coconut cream, followed by the meringue. My son loves this combination.

I cannot believe that the first pie that came to my heart and mind is Strawberry Rhubarb Pie! It was one of my mother's signature pies.. Our neighbor grew it in his back yard just to ensure his piece of the pie!
Then I carefully scroll down to add my comment, and WA BANG!!!
Kimberly, you stole my thunder! Bravo! :) Great choice!

What would I fill it with? Well, PIE, of course! Right now I am picking sun-ripened wild blackberries from a field near my home so the very FIRST pie in the box is going to be a luscious blackberry pie! Now, the only remaining question is what do I carry the homemade ice cream in?

I would fill it with my favorite peach crumb pie! Using my grandmother"s stellar flaky pie crust recipe and peaches from our local orchard. Then I would deliver it safely in the Pie Box to my Mom who always requests a peach pie or cobbler instead of a birthday cake.

Well, any pie pictured above would be to-die-for, but I've been hankering to try my hand at a grape pie, featuring a crust made from the grapeseed flour my mama just brought me from Napa Valley, sprinkled liberally with large grains of raw sugar, and topped with some magical wine-infused whipped cream!

July 18, 2014
I have a favorite recipe that was shared with me, somewhat reluctantly, by a friend when I visited her in Germany, johannisbeere kuchen. It was presented as a secret family recipe from her grandmother, and possibly earlier. It's light and airy, fragrant with red currants, lemon zest and vanilla sugar, and is amazingly attractive to fruit flies this time of year. Red currants are only available for picking for a couple of weeks, between strawberry and blueberry season, in Michigan. I would love to bake a 9 or 10" version of this recipe in a springform and store it in its own piebox to keep it safe from the curious, hungry and mating fruit flies.
angela S.

My Mom's sweet potato pie. I started baking it when i was 15. It took 15 years for my Dad to decide it was better than my Mom's. She agreed and i've been baking all sorts of creations ever since. I would keep this pie in this box for a short while. This pie won't last long. It never does. But, while it did, I would keep it in this box.

My sister and I have a very special pie that we make on holidays and other times when we can be together. It's a simple pie, deep dish apple pie with a mix of sweet and tart apples, but the flaky, buttery crust is what makes this pie extra delicious. The pie box would be key to protecting the very important pie crust so that we can take it with us on picnics at the beach!

This Piebox is a great idea! My husband has entered the Alaska State Fair with various cheesecakes for the last 5-6 years. He's won 4 blue ribbons and, 2 years ago, the big kahuna. Best of cake division purple! He transports the cheesecakes roughly 45 miles to the fair. We've tried paper cake boxes, bankers' boxes with towels and a plastic cake carrier. Cheesecakes slide around. All the best from Alaska!

Every autumn for the past 18 years, my family has gathered at my sister's farm for Pie Day. On hand we have 2 or 3 bushels of Northern Spy apples - picked by some of us the week before - plus stacks of butter and cream cheese, rows of flour and sugar bags, and a large mason jar of cinnamon. Surrounded by the yellows and reds and oranges of the fall trees outside the kitchen picture windows, we set about making 50 - 60 pies that are, at the end of the long long day, distributed among the helpers and gently transported to their freezers. If carefully rationed, we enjoy fresh baked pies all year... until next Pie Day. When I'm invited to Pot Luck gatherings, arriving with a pie is an expectation...and a pleasure. Arriving with a pie in this elegant pie box would be - can I say - the icing on the cake?!

I live in Brooklyn and love to make pies to take to my work team in lower Manhattan, and, boy, transporting a pie in a shopping bag on the subway is not fun. I'd put any of my homemade efforts in this pie box for a trip to Hanover Square -- next on the list is Black Bottom Lemon Pie from the Four & Twenty Blackbirds pie book!

I would love to win this beautiful box to transport a homemade pizza pie in, as it's not something that's made very often but when it is made it's a sheer delight coming from my kitchen as it brings family together for good food, laughs, and bonding time.

If I had this coveted pie box I would use it to carry James Beard' s classic Tomato Pie, (sans the mayo, which puts it a little over the top even for this brought up on Hellman' s girl) the perfect summertime picnic pie. This is so delicious served hot or room temp and made beautiful with the heirloom tomatoes I can't resist growing! My tomato pie is always so well received and it would be a pleasure to carry this hefty treasure in the ideal chest.

The better question is what pie wouldn't I fill this pie box with, but I think the first would be the decadent, and sometimes elusive, Lemon Meringue Cherry Pie. Sour lemons balanced by sweet cherries topped with delicious fluffy meringue! Oh my!

My grandmother taught me to make pie; she lived in PA north of Phillie and every summer vacation with her was pie heaven. Sour cherry, rhubarb, peach, apple, shoofly - but the pie that always makes me think of her is groundcherry custard. "Wild" groundcherries sprung up like weeds around the garden, and the ripe fruit just fall off the plant with their papery husk when they are ready, making the perfect treasure hunt for little kids. We filled our shirts with groundcherries and then relished that super delicate cinnamon custard flavor with little bursts of fruit after dinner. I've never ever found a groundcherry pie anywhere else!

We used to live in Santa Fe, NM and I grew up in Chicago. We miss Green chiles and I grew up having apple pie with a sliced of cheddar cheese melted on top. Over the years I have played around with modifying fillings and or crusts with both ingredients. The best I have come up with is mixing fresh chopped green chiles into the pie crust and still having the the melted cheddar cheese on top. This year, I plan to try mixing the green chile powder into a cheddar cheese pie crust for a portable and easy to serve apple pie with a cheddar green chile crust!

I would buy the biggest the biggest blackberries I could find and take them to my 92 year old Mom so she could make me a pie! When I was a kid we picked those berries by the side of the road in Washington state. Her pies were the greatest and have filled my memories with so much blackberry love!

Many, many years ago, my husband and I sliced grapes, while watching a movie, for a grape pie recipe I found in a magazine -- we sliced enough grapes for two large pies. It took the better part of a feature film to slice all the individual grapes. We were quite the sight, sitting on the couch, large bowl between us, cutting boards on our laps, slicing grapes one-by-one. I never made the pie again. Now that I have a food processor, I am going to try my hand at that recipe again, but without all the labor intensive slicing. I would like to tote my grape pie, which our extended family has been requesting for years, in that fabulous pie box, to a large family get together. It would make the surprise reappearance of the grape pie all that more special.

No one could appreciate a great "pie box" more than my late Mother. She was an incredible maker of pies. Sunday dinners, church potlucks and holiday gatherings were always graced with her pies. Her rhubarb custard pie was (and still is) my all-time favorite. So I'm picturing that simple wooden pie box holding a warm, sweet-tart rhubarb custard pie!

I would put a "god pie" in my box! A god pie is my great aunt's recipe for a chocolate chip pecan pie. My family calls it the god pie because my grandmother thought it was terrible and would never eat it, until my dad (the not so secretly favorite child) made it. Then it was the best pie she had ever eaten! She always requested it when my dad asked what kind of pie she wanted for dessert! It's a family joke now!

I would take my favorite apple pie on the road- although that doesn't mean I'll share. I might just bring it to the beach or for a walk. My apple pie is especially tall because I could never decide on streusel or lattice so now I do both. My pate brisse dough is speckled with turbinado sugar and my apples wear simple lemon zest, brown sugar, and equal parts vanilla & bourbon. A pint of vanilla ice cream from Arethusa Farm and I'm all set.

at this time of year I put a white napkin rose on the top of the box holding strawberry and rhubarb pie inviting a bite of the sweetness of summer. and in another box, a blueberry pie from my home grown berries with a sprig of blueberry greenery atop the box. these gifts are meant to say "it's summer, time to strike the right chord to ring out its' delicious and loving gifts."

Such a beautifully simple pie box deserves an equally simple pastry such as Alice Waters free form tart filled with whatever fruit is in season, be it apples, peaches, plums, nectarines or . . .

July 16, 2014
While most would think it is pie that fills the box, really it is filled with memories. To me, pies evoke thoughts of summers and holidays, shared laughter, and memories. Ideally, for me it's a strawberry rhubarb pie....but blueberry, peach and coconut custard are equally welcome in the box that is family and friends.

Chicken Pot Pie! I have a wonderful recipe for a family sized pot pie. The next time a friend has a baby or moves, I would visit with a pot pie in a pie box. And while they would expect me to pull out a fruit pie for dessert, I would surprise them with a comforting and hearty savory pie.

July 16, 2014
My affinity for any and all summer desserts, coupled with that all-American need for PIE dictate that I'll have this pie box filled to the brim. I've got it all laid out; I'll lay a chilled panna cotta with some peppered, balsamic strawberries. And on too, a gorgeous deep dish strawberry-rhubarb pie. And then I'll cross my fingers that my family doesn't get to all those goodies before I do!

Fresh NW Apple pie in September/October! My mom is the Pie Queen and it would be great to return the favor after all the years (and pies).

July 16, 2014
Lots of these sound fantastic, but a fresh apricot pie -- perfectly tart, perfectly sweet -- simply must be the worthy occupant of a classic pie box. It will not only hold the pie in perfect condition, bring raves and an inexplicable awe at the pie's presentation, and provide the perfect "yeah, that's my pie" pride for its baker, but it will ALSO be a stunning compliment to the wooden-staved container on the hand-cranked ice cream maker. It's not just a slice of pie with fresh vanilla ice cream -- it's a slice of heaven!

I'd put savory or sweet Empanadas in this beautiful rustic box for that extra special touch and a bit of a surprise element. Of course, my favorite pie is homemade pumpkin pie which I would proudly display in this unique "center-of-attention" box. This beauty would definitely set the scene for any pie that you would want to transport in it!

July 16, 2014
A humble but beautiful Apple pie from great Aunt Ediths recipe would look lovely in this pie box. Family reunions were the time of the year we were graced with her thin Apple pie made from tiny June apples. She cooked the apples until they were almost Apple butter in texture and then baked in a flaky crust. My cousin and I begged her after her 98th birthday to teach us to bake her pies. She never made just one so it was a Saturday baking pies and making memories. A pie full of memories needs a special mode of transport this year since we have lost our wonderful aunt and a four hour drive isn't easy on precious cargo for our reunion.
Kristie F.
July 16, 2014
I most definitely would place a lovely, delicious, mouth watering Crumb Apple Pie made with MacIntosh apples and a sweet crumbly crumb topping and a creamy whipped topping made with half and half. I love this pie carrier!!!

July 16, 2014
If I were to be given this beautiful pie box I would use it to carry my family's favorite pies. The art of pie baking was passed down to me by my mother, Ruthie, who was an amazing pie baker. Since it's summer, I would first carry a sour cherry pie with a lattice topped crust—the cherries are waiting for the next event in my freezer. Come fall, it would be filled with a pumpkin pie made using Ruthie's secret ingredient (shhh...a tablespoon of good molasses). The crust edge would of course be adorned with pastry leaves. Christmas? Ruthie's pecan pie—another special recipe that mom found in an old southern cookbook, Charleston Receipts—different from the usually gooey pecan pies. Spring birthdays brings requests for Black Bottom pie from the Stouffer's Cookbook—many people don't realize there were restaurants long before the frozen foods! This pie is AMAZING—pastry crust filled with a rich chocolate bottom, rum chiffon center, topped with whipped cream and chocolate curls. The pie basket I inherited from mom is getting to be a little unstable, so the pie box would be welcomed. Besides, daughter #3 (of 4), who is a fine pie baker herself, has been coveting it. Wondering which of my 5 granddaughters will become the next pie baker!

Maple cream pie. Or a banana cream pie. There seems to be a theme in pie preferences. A good old-fashioned apple pie being the exception.

Black bottom marshmallow pie! It's really chocolate pudding pie with a toasted meringue-y topping. I'll never forget the time I drove from VA to CT with a freshly made one in my car. Didn't look too pretty when I arrived. If only I'd had a pie box!

I would transport my Lazy Mary Lemon Tarts. Living in Arizona I have a lot of lemons and I have found this to be one of the easiest pies to make and a huge it with all my foodie friends. What an awesome box to show up at all the parties with my special baked treats.

July 16, 2014
Each summer, I give my sister the rhubarb and strawberries from our garden and she makes the most delicious — and beautiful pies. As a graphic designer, I appreciate a proper presentation for almost everything, but most certainly for something so lovely as her pies. Sadly, I have seen her transport them in cardboard boxes with a dishtowel draped over the top. She's the practical sister and would appreciate the convenience, stackability, portability and the fact that they're vented so as not to sog out her perfect, flaky crust. And since I'm the more visual (i.e. frivolous) sister, I love the look — hand crafted, natural, simple and pure. Like the pies themselves.
LESLIE E.

My two year old and I have been joyfully picking our first crop of blueberries from our own front yard. Add these to my flaky crust recipe and keep it simple with lemon zest and sugar- and if my friends are lucky, it *might* just make it into that pie box for the next cookout (nom nom nom).

If I had a pie box,
I'd fill it full of crust,
with cherries, plump and red,
And tartness you could trust.
Such taste would make you swoon,
With Summer in every spoon,
a pie to make a pie box,
Something wanted soon!

I would fill it with my favorite pie: Andes Chocolate Cream Mint pie, layered high. Chocolate crust, chocolate cream layer, mint cream layer, white cream layer, and Ande's mints piled on top. Delicious.

I just made a chicken pot pie and will bring it to my neighbor to share a good meal.

It would have to be a pecan pie for my son -- his favorite. Or maybe a lemon meringue, his next favorite. He lives 2,254 miles away, and I will be flying to see him the end of July. He knows pies are in his future. :)

A traditional apple pie is my favorite during the summer time. Something about grilling burgers outside all day with friends and following it up with yummy apple pie makes me grin!

My 'Famous' Apple Pie! In my family everyone asks for my Apple Pie instead of cake for their Birthday. It has evolved over the years but begins with my 'No Fail Crust' Recipe and always includes two types of apples, a tart and a sweet! ;)

The pie boxes are beautiful. What a great idea. I love any fresh fruit with a sweet and savory crumble on top. I love mince meat (made with awesome green tomatoes) and my dad would tear up whenever I brought him a freshly baked strawberry-rhubarb.

The pie that just came out of my oven -- all local fruits -- blueberries from NJ, red currants and peaches from NY.

I would fill it with my best apple pie with Mac apples from New England; or my blueberry pie with sweet, small Maine blues; or Amanda's Peach Tart, which I am baking tonight with new Jersey peaches!

Oh..easiest answer ever ever...my fresh peach pie in the summer and my custard pie in the Fall and my chocolate pie in the winter and my coconut cream pie in the Spring with Easter brunch! There easy as pie! :)

Since everyone is always so guilty about the idea of pie and its calories I would fill the box with small tarts and watch the "lookers" justify their "Oh no" stances with "I can have that little pie". They won't know that my strawberry rhubarb will entice them to a second or third tart. This box will be essential to stop the individual tarts from sliding or tipping and make a grand presentation

July 16, 2014
Well, with Texas peaches in season, I'd have to bake a peaches and cream pie. Roasted peaches and a cream and egg custard...yum!
C H.
July 16, 2014
If it lasted long enough to get into the box...my summer favorite: very berry rhubarb pie (rhubarb, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries with a hint of balsamic) and an almond crunch top. In a few months, it would be my chopped apple whipped cream custard pie. Both worthy of special presentation.

Nothing beats plain apple pie. Made with fresh granny smith apples and a flaky crust straight off the old Crisco can.

July 16, 2014
My mother’s Southern Peach Pie - which is the epitome of a lazy warm summer day! Southern Peaches have such a short season and even more so when you live in the North, I beg for one of these pies almost daily during that short season and even try to freeze a few to keep the season going. A top rate pie box would be fitting for such a top rate pie!

July 16, 2014
I would fill it with a banana chocolate pudding pie topped with homemade whipped cream. I would take it to my son at college--it's his favorite pie!
Judith H.
July 16, 2014
Fresh seasonal peaches baked into a peach sour cream pie. Second choice would be blueberry made from freshly picked wild blueberries. Pie box is also a great way to transport a savory quiche.

Double raspberry tart, the best ever, with a French butter crust with fluted edge, baked with a raspberry custard (butter, eggs, Cointreau, fresh raspberries), and covered with heaps of fresh raspberries, dusted with icing sugar and served with a dollop of fresh whipped cream

It would have to be my grandmother's Plum Peachy pie. She's been gone for several years but every time I make this pie, it's like I have her sitting with me as I eat it! Great pie; great memories!

I would fill it with my berry galette and then my fig galette and then my pecan tart or my peach tart. In the fall I would fill it with my apple pie or my pumpkin pie or my apple and pear pie. I would fill it and fill it again! The possibilities are endless!

I would give this to my friend Lucy, my fellow expat in Sweden, who would fill it with a perfect pumpkin pie and bring it on the back of her bike to our makeshift everything-is-from-scratch-because-there's-no-other-option, lingonberry-is-not-the-same-as-cranberry-but-it'll-have-to-do, (they-have-turkeys-in-Sweden???), home-is-where-the-heart-is Thanksgiving dinner

This summer has been the summer of pies - I've been baking nearly a pie a night to bring on picnics, friends' bbq's or just to veg out in front of the tv. Blueberry pie with feta and rosemary is potentially my new favorite - sweet and savory!

Hmmmnnnn......I'd make my homemade apple pie with a white cheddar crust and fill it with sauteed Fuji (yes, fuji!) apples that have been cooked with cinnamon, clove, butter, sugar, vanilla and bourbon. serve with a dollop of creme fraiche.

Since my daughter has multiple food allergies, these would come in handy to take her safe pies, cakes & other homemade goodies to functions! I would put my killer allergy friendly Boston cream pie (and hide it from my hubby, of course) and my daughters favorite allergy friendly wet bottom shoo-fly pie.

SUMMER BLUEBERRY PIE - This blueberry pie recipe offers a chilled blueberry pie made with fresh summer blueberries mixed into a sour cream filling and is toped with a walnut sprinkle which if cooked in the oven, allowed to cool, and then chilled. Happy to share complete recipe if interested - AWESOME!

Definitely my fresh rasberry, rhubarb double crusted pie with the fruit picked from my garden . hen serving, a little HD vanilla ice cream flavored with cassis syrup alongside wouldn't hurt.

I would use this gorgeous pie box to deliver my chai spice red fig pie with maple whipped cream to my mother for her birthday this month! In the Fall, it would accompany me as I gifted festive persimmon pecan pies to my adored friends and family!

Before I married into the family, my mother-in-law-to-be gave me a beautiful pottery deep-dish pie plate, and for forty years, I've never used anything else when I make a pie. So I would have to choose my absolute favorite apple pie, using a recipe from a tiny cookbook from Williamsburg, Virginia, and apples from my own orchard.

I would become such the Pie Lady at my office! The pie box makes an added professional touch. I grow my own strawberries, so strawberry pie is first on the list to bake!

it may not be as fancy as most pies, but my grandmother always makes a few light and lovely butternut squash pies around thanksgiving weekend.

July 16, 2014
I would fill this pie box with the most delicious mixed up pie with a filling of nectarines, peaches, and apricots. I'd use my grandmother's (really my great-grandfather's) dough recipe, and make a lattice top knowing that it wouldn't be damaged on the way to the party!!

My uncle who raised me grew up on a farm in Elizabeth Town, PA. This is where I would ride horses into the forest, collect berries and return home to bake a pie from what I had foraged. Looking back, I now understand why I prefer pie to cake.
The first pie I would fill my piebox with my famous stone fruit pie. Although I currently live in the fast-paced city of Los Angeles, I'd go to the farmer's market to forage and collect a perfect mix of freckled plums and white and yellow nectarines and top with a brown sugar and oatmeal crumble.

Fruit pies are my favorite. I would probably use a pie box for a cherry pie or strawberry rhubarb!
If I couldn't get fruit I would probably go for a French silk pie; simple and delicious.

Gotta be the classic Harvey Walbanger Pie and Mom's Chocolate Cream Pie both of which need an extra large box to accomodate all the whipped cream love!

Any pie that I bring when traveling with my sister! She made a beautiful lemon meringue pie once to bring for dessert at Thanksgiving, put it on the seat in the car and accidentally sat on it! I think she was disappointed about it for days. I'd love to give her a Pie Box!

Pie is simply the best dessert! However, I would transport my homemade ricotta cheese pie, an Easter tradition in our family.

Oooh! I'd make a peach pie with a lattice top. Yum! Then I'd take it to myneighbor's, share the pie, and leave her the box as a gift. She is an amazing pie baker and a sweet and generous friend. If anyone would appreciate this beautiful pie box, I know Lindi would. :)

Ooooh, oooh, oooh, oooh ....
So many pies,
So little time,
I simply can't make up my mind,
The chicken & tata a la Rosemary Shrager,
Or one with tasty apples supplied by my neighbour,
One with Dad's rhubarb,
All sugary and tart,
I really don't know where to start,
But it would filled,
Of that I'm sure,
So PLEASE make it me ... I do implore!
My fingers are firmly crossed ... particularly as I have a lovely crop of raspberries just waiting to jump into a pie :)

I have a cherry tree in the yard that produces the most beautiful red cherries every summer. I bake and bake cherry pies until my hands are dyed from the juice. This perfect pie with it's homemade lattice top desperately needs it's own box so I can share the cherry love!

July 16, 2014
I would fill it with love because any pie is made with love - in the baking, giving, eating, even just the thought of pie is love.

A Pie Box!How handy would that be. Here on Prince Edward Island, Canada, my daughter and her family, my sister-in-law and my husband and myself, each have houses here on our 4.5 acre " compound". We frequently take turns hosting communal meals. This would come in so handy for transporting desserts: something we could all share. My first desert would have to be a Strawberry /Raspberry/Blueberry Clafouti, a summer tradition. Love you site.

I love cherry pie, or raspberry pie. I'm from the Midwest, so making fresh tart cherry pie is the best. With raspberry pie you need a lot of raspberries, so it is think and juicy!

I would fill my piebox with a simple homemade Apple Pie. Made from the apples picked from the graphs of my grandmothers special tree. For that is where the heart of the pie is.

Two options: a fresh summer nectarine pie, but made with a short crust and a layer of pastry cream in the bottom, served cold; a savory Swiss Cheese and onion tart with a puff pastry crust (saves you some sweat in the summer) and sweet Spanish and red onions, Gruyere and a touch of Bleu. Ideally, I'd do both and have a grand picnic. Chilled beer and sparkling wine of course.
Betty
July 16, 2014
The first pie would be a Strawberry-banana cream pie, then a Marionberry pie, those would be the first of many pies.
