3 Things to Pick Up at the Market This Weekend

September 27, 2014

Here at Food52, we like to talk about what we’re buying at the market: what’s new, what’s exciting, the market's best finds. This is our water cooler talk. And now, we want you to join in.

Pears and Apples

This week, we've been all about apples: admiring apples, baking apples, planning apple-picking excursions, and hunting down apple cider. If you're still mulling over what to get at the farmers market this weekend, here’s what the Food52 editors can’t wait to pick up -- and why you should be adding it to your bag, too.

Shop the Story

Crate of Apples

Winesap Apples
Ask us what our favorite apple is, and the answer is likely to change every time, but right now, the apple of our eye is a Winesap. They’re a community favorite for baking, and Marian’s planning on snacking on them with almond butter, cinnamon, honey, and salt.

Delicata Squash
Slice them into pretty rings and enjoy their thin skin -- no peeling required. Not-too-wintry delicatas let us just dip our toes into squash season; come October we'll cozy up to burly kabochas and pumpkins.

Decorative Gourds
Because, well, it’s autumn. And that makes it decorative gourd season. Go forth and adorn your mantle, your table, or the piece of IKEA furniture whose name you can’t pronounce.

Tell us: What are you adding to your market bag this week?

Cauliflower was SUPER cheap at the market this week (two for £1) so it's a week of roasted cauliflower, cauliflower puree, and cauliflower "couscous"!
