Sarah Copeland  Raspberries

Sarah Copeland of the blog Edible Living craves telling stories as much as she craves a good pastry—both, she admits, a bit too often. It’s a good thing (for both her and us) she has this blog.

Copeland, a seasoned recipe developer, food stylist and writer, started Edible Living a year and a half ago when she realized that she needed an outlet for her writing and images. Writing, she says, is her first love and she wanted to find a way to connect with other people who value what she does—gardening, eating fresh foods, foraging and adventuring with food.

Her focus is not so much recipes but good ingredients and experiences. In her own words: “My blog is about telling stories. It is a lifestyle blog as much as a food blog, with my musings on what I consider a good life, from gardening to relationships (she is very happily married), to entertaining and cooking.” Part of the good life, for Copeland, clearly involves food, and she looks at all things edible with a sophisticated and informed eye.

Season's First  Figs

Shop the Story

She is giddy over a basket of “tiny purple figs, some still dewy as if they’d just been picked from a tree,” and the season’s first spring produce. She seems to fall in love with the red and golden raspberries she and her husband pick from a friend’s farm: “I for one am so grateful that the earth’s treasures come in so many shapes, sizes and colors, each more pleasing than the last.” Her photos, hazy close-ups of the ingredients with minimal styling, show how much she appreciates food in its purest form, what she can grow or pick or buy at the farmers market.

Copeland is at work on a cookbook for couples, which she describes as a dream project: “Relationships give you the chance to rethink the role food plays in your world. It can be natural, joyful and nurturing, especially as you create new traditions together. That is the most fun of all.”
