20 Weekend Baking Projects to Conquer This Winter (and Spring!)

February  5, 2016

Saturday afternoon baking can be a sacred ritual. For the first time all week, you're cooking just for you—not rushing to the store and throwing a meal together for a family that needs to be fed half an hour ago. Or, maybe, you're cooking not just for you for a change; you're hosting a dinner party or brunch with friends who will appreciate your culinary prowess. ("You actually made these croissants?!")

Weekends are the time for projects. I'm talking yeasted dough with multiple risings, candy thermometers, dough braiding, and chocolate tempering. When you actually sift your dry ingredients, and you swirl and pipe that frosting to a Mary Berry-approved level of perfection. If you tackle one of these 20 recipes every weekend starting today, you'll have baked your way to June 18. June! So reserve that Saturday afternoon slot for Serious Projects (whatever that means to you!), and come summer, you'll be a bona fide Cake Boss. Plus, it will be summer. Win-win.
