16 Frozen Desserts That Require No Special Equipment

May 26, 2016

Make it to Memorial Day and (in many parts of this country) you can put your roasting pans, slow-cooker, and stock pot in harder-to-reach cabinets of the kitchen. But say goodbye to one group of equipment, and you suddenly find yourself reuniting—or investing—in a whole new gang: grills (or grill pans) and grilling spatulas, skewers, ice buckets, wooden planks—the list goes on.

It's a lot of change, so it's understandable that you might not want to welcome another piece of machinery—the ice cream maker—into the fold. But luckily, for the love of all things frozen and creamy (ice creams, semifreddos) and icy and granular (granitas, sorbets), there's another way: the no-churn miracle!

Here are 16 frozen desserts that require nothing more than time—okay, and lot of fruit, cream, chocolate, etc., too, but no special equipment!

(And if/when you do invest in an ice cream machine, we've got plenty of recipes to make the most of that, too.)

I used to work at Food52. I'm probably the person who picked all of the cookie dough out of the cookie dough ice cream.

Usually I quite enjoy the articles you post. However, this one is rather disappointing. When I saw the title for 16 desserts, I did not expect 5 to just be a different flavor of granita and 4 semifreddo.
