Turntable Kitchen
There are thousands of cooking blogs -- each week, we bring you highlights from the best. This week, we're turning up the music and rocking out by the stove.
What's round and delicious and isn't the Squash Blossom and Burrata Pizza pictured above? Why, Turntable Kitchen of course! Do you rock out while you cook? Do you always remember the ditty playing behind your most memorable meals? Does Phantom Planet's "California" make you think "fish taco!" not "ah, Venice Beach"? Behold the point in cyberspace where food and music converge.
Started by San Franciscans Kasey and Matthew, Turntable Kitchen is "a place to come home to, travel with and turn up the volume on" -- the soundtrack to your life, in which we imagine food plays a leading role. The couple feature everything from local, seasonal recipes and food happenings to musical pairings, album reviews, mixes and musings on their "city livin' and country hoppin' adventures".
We're especially intrigued by something called Pairings Box, which they describe as a "curated food and music discovery experience, delivered to your door every month." For 25 bucks, you receive a grab bag of food and music goodies -- novel, no?
Not to be forgotten, however, is that despite its hybrid nature, Turntable Kitchen is an excellent resource for recipes and videos. While many of the recipes originate in other sources, they are expertly culled and curated here and reshot with a keen eye. The clincher: the recipes are paired with music! Feel the need to boogie over breakfast? Kim Boyce's Beer and Barley Crepes and Breathe Owl Breathe by Magic Central is the duet for you. And so, to quote the quotable, if music be the food of love, play on baby!

Thank you, francesca! (And mrslarkin, too.) It would be a tremendous honor to have suggested a contest theme. Now what in the world would I submit...

Great idea for a blog. Over at aargersi's recipe for Crispy Coconut Tofu with Burning Rings Of Fire we were discussing the idea of Your Best Recipe Inspired by a Song. I imagine there could be an abundance of cherry pies, but still I think it might be an interesting contest.

Now that is an awesome idea, checker. We love music in this house - almost always have it on. What a great blog to showcase. Thanks, guys.
