We know that Food52 is filled with creative, talented home cooks. But we've got our share of funny wordsmiths too. Check out some choice quotes pulled from recipe headnotes submitted to Your Best Fair Food, and laugh along with us. Happy Friday!

"I am so sorry. About the name. Not about the dish."
- Helenthenanny on Corn Dog-ccoli

"I really love caramel corn -- I mean REALLY love it in the 'eat it until you feel sick, then drink some tea, think -- oh I feel better -- then eat some more, rinse, repeat' sense."
- aargersi on Texas Sweet Heat - Caramel Pretzels

"Minnesota has a great State Fair (don't miss it, don't even delay ... ). However, when I was growing up, my family did not really appreciate it. We were not farm people. And my mother's European sensibilities made her look at the fair with a raised eyebrow."
- fiveandspice on Grilled corn with smokey peach butter

"It doesn't get much better than watching the horses work out in the mornings at Saratoga Race Course ... unless it's watching Bobby Flay watch his horses work out in the mornings at Saratoga!"
- wssmom on Bobby Flay-inspired Hard Lemonade

"I know. I'm a sick puppy. I couldn't help myself. Really I couldn't."
- mrslarkin on Chicken Fried Macaroni and Cheese

that would be a "dinner show" worth going to!

but when you are "on", you are so right!

Oh, I thought you meant "fair" as in "excellent," "good," "fair" and "poor," so my best fair food is a plain mixed green salad. It becomes good if you add some gorgonzola cheese, raisins, pine nuts and chopped sweet peppers. It moves into excellent territory when you top it all off with a freshly made fig-balsamic vinaigrette seasoned with salt, pepper and chopped parsley. Enjoy, but don't ask me for my best "poor" recipe. :-)

Oh, I thought you meant "fair" is in "excellent," "good," "fair" or "poor"--so I would say my best fair food is a mixed green salad with nothing on it. It becomes good food if you add some feta cheese, olives, onions, and bacon bits, and it turns into excellent if you top the whole thing with some pine nuts and freshly made olive oil-fig balsamic glaze vinaigrette with fresh parsley sprigs.

I'm not sure why two versions of this posted, but I had to go back and log in and when I returned I had to rewrite the whole thing from memory.

I have one for you..."Deep fried Twinkies and Snickers will be the downfall of mankind--in a good way!" Our Puyallup State Fair is coming up here in Washington and there's none better.
