Perfect Hot Chocolate

“Smart Food, Smart Fitness and Smart Life.” Sounds…inspiring, doesn’t it? It’s the motto of our very own FOOD52-er SavvyJulie, and it’s one we’d like to adapt for ourselves. “Smart Food,” from what we can see, is food that is healthful – but not trying too hard. It is food lashed through with a bit of indulgence – but food we can eat every day. It is food that is fun to make, beautiful to look at, and even better to sit down and feast on. Combined with a little fitness, it is food that makes for a smart (and virtuous, and fulfilling) life.

SavvyJulie’s recipes are “Smart Food” to the core: local, seasonal, and satisfying. We’d love to start every day with some Hearty Raspberry Pancakes or Whole Wheat Raspberry Muffins – before a long, winding hike or (most likely) a day at the office. She knows how to make the words “bacon” and “risotto” sound healthy: Bacon Brown Rice Risotto. Even SavvyJulie’s desserts make us feel virtuous; her Clementine Cutie Brownies and Clementine Pound Cake guarantee we’ll get our fruits this winter. No matter what the season – or our fitness level – we’ll raise our mugs of Perfect Hot Chocolate (pictured above) and say cheers: to Smart Food, Smart Fitness, Smart Life, and SavvyJulie

Congrats, Julie! I have a fave brown rice made by Massa Organics. Will try it w/ your bacon brown rice risotto. Btw: have you been to 'ino in the West Village? Makes the best egg in a hole.

I don't make it down to New York City too often, but we did go to 'ino on New Year's Eve 2010. LOVED the egg in the hole with some truffle oil!
