Our Cooking Manifesto isn't something we mention too often, but we hope that you've looked at it, and that it permeates this site as it does our lives. At the center of the manifesto is a sense that so much of cooking is about passing things down to the next generation. Raising little human beings who love to cook, and for whom food has more meaning than simply a mode of calorie delivery.

The FOOD52 Manifesto

If you cook, your family will eat dinner together.
If you cook, you will naturally have a more sustainable household.
If you cook, you'll set a lifelong example for your children.
If you cook, you'll understand what goes into food and will eat more healthily.
If you cook, you'll make your home an important place in your life.
If you cook, you'll make others happy.
If you cook, people will remember you.

We talk a lot about Amanda's little ones and if you follow us on Twitter, you've probably read a bit about the kinds of things they take in their lunch boxes. And while it's probably no surprise that these kids spend some time in the kitchen with their mom, we thought you might like to take a closer look.

In the video above, Amanda cooks David Eyre's Pancake with her kids and talks about what matters most to her when it comes to shopping and cooking with them. Plus, there's plenty of heart-melting shots of our very own nominees for the JBF Award for Most Adorable Superstar 5-Year-Olds in the How to Cook With Your Kids category. Also known as Addie & Walker.

I love your message and this is a beautiful video. I think the kitchen is a wonderful place to teach children about so many things and your twins are very lucky indeed.

I make the "giant pancake" almost every week-end with my 6 year old - she likes to assemble it and then watch it grow through the oven window. It is amazing the transformation of how I view food and its origins has been changed by her arrival in my life.

Wow. I could watch you speak and then cook with your kids any day.Walker's grin is infectious. Lovely video. What kind of rasper are you using now? That looks great!

Beautiful -- the video, the children, the sense of ritual and respect that comes across. It reminds me of cooking with our children and their love of food, cooking and the values you speak of so well. And thank you for putting the Manifesto in front of us -- so worth remembering. (We made a similar recipe, in the guise of 'Seattle Dutch Babies" -- so exciting when it comes out of the oven all puffed up!)

Addie and Walker are just as engaging in real life as they are in the video. This video should be Youtubed. More American families should be encouraged to cook WITH their kids.

What a great video! Your twins are absolutely adorable! They're positively beaming at the end when they're ready to eat what they've helped to prepare.

Amazing and inspirational. Thanks for posting. I wonder what you think of the fact that not everyone has the opportunity or resources to shop at a farmer's market. I know it's one of my favorite things to do when I can get to it, but wonder whether it's something that can ever be available to everyone.

What a great video - important subject and just about the sweetest little kids ever! I love the part where Addie points out something spilled on the counter and also how Walker's hair looks like he just got out of bed. What else do the twins cook with you?

Wonderful video. When did you redo your kitchen? Did you just paint the existing cabinets or did you go all out and replace everything?

Suzanne is a trusted source on General Cooking.

Wonderful video and the message is so important. Instilling in children a respect for food and how we get it, where it came from is so important, This speaks of everything food52 stands for, Well done,
