Ever wondered who came up with the food pyramid? I remember learning about it in third grade, but I haven't heard much since. Who decided how many sweets, vegetables, and meats we were healthfully able to consume? And does that food pyramid apply to everyone?

Marion Nestle, Author of Food Politics, answers these questions and more in a post on The Atlantic. You might be surprised at how political and scientific the decision was. You will likely be less surprised to learn that even better than obsessively counting calories and tracking nutrient requirements, is simply eating your vegetables.
