Think twice before you toss your morning banana peel. According to Edward Humes, author of Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair With Trash, we're chucking 28 billion pounds of food a year — and that adds up to a whopping 25% of our country's food supply. Luckily, a piece from Prevention Magazine reminds us that clean composting doesn't even require getting your hands dirty (unless you're into that, which we totally support). All across the United States, pro-active cities are running residential composting prorams that will happily divert your food scraps from waste into more environmentally friendly biodegrade. Other programs they recommend checking out include your local farmers market, grocery store, or community garden.

Great post! We started composting last year and once you make it a habit, it's so easy!
