The Pampered...Cow?

May 31, 2012

Here’s the story of a dairy cow named Lucky, and how she gets more massages during her workweek than you could hope for in a month. She’s stressed, to be sure, but so are we. So what gives?

Farmers are increasingly worried about the comfort of their dairy cows, and techniques like massage, classical music, and even waterbeds are all creative methods to keep cows as mellow as possible. Because, not surprisingly, happy cows make more (and happier) milk.

Farmers say they can see the difference in milk output, and even though there is not yet any scientific data to back them up, we can safely say we’re always in favor of happier cows. Now, if only we could get in on the daily massages.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.
