Easy as Parasite Pie

June  7, 2012

Forget rhubarb. Lamprey eel is so much more interesting. (New Genius Recipe idea, anyone?)

Lamprey pie is a delicacy filled with exactly what it promises: eels. Queen Elizabeth will be getting one for her upcoming Diamond Jubilee, as per a tradition that dates back decades (she also received one for her coronation in 1953), and so should you.

The lamprey eels are a meaty, jawless fish, that were eaten by the upper classes throughout the middle ages. They’ve been known to suck a little blood, you know, every now and then, but that’s not an issue, right? If a queen can eat it, we figure we’d give it a shot.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.
