It's the best job in the world, with one caveat: we have no money to pay you! (Yet.)

We're looking for a savvy cook and pithy writer who's also a news junkie to help us launch a new area of the site. It would be a 3 to 6 month internship.

Shop the Story

If any of the following don't apply to you, this may not be your thing:

  • You have a flexible schedule
  • You can work at home; good internet helps
  • You live in or near Brooklyn so we can meet there now and then
  • You're a voracious reader of all things food and you have strong opinions about it
  • You love social media like Facebook and Twitter and know your way around an amusing status update
  • You have an eye for trends and aren't afraid to call out the faux ones
  • You're not easily derailed by a sometimes annoying admin system on our site

If you're interested, please email us at [email protected] with your resume, some writing clips and how to find you on Twitter.

Hi Food52! Let me know if you got my resume! I'm ready to start whenever you are!

Amanda H. January 14, 2010
We did, and thank you! We've been flooded with emails from excellent candidates and are happily making our way through reading everyone's notes and resumes. A great and generous group of people.

Culinista A. January 14, 2010
Thank you for the update!

Kelsey B. January 8, 2010
This would be so awesome - if only childcare were offered! :) I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I meet anyone in my everyday nyc encounters, though. And, once my child starts school next year I'll be totally available (haha!)

mariaraynal January 8, 2010
Oh, to be an independently wealthy, freebird kind of gal who lives in Brooklyn! What a great (and fun) opportunity.

Klink January 8, 2010
Oh this sounds right up my alley (does UES count as close enough to Brooklyn?) except 30 hours a week is a lot on top of my full time job. I hope you find someone well qualified!

Loves F. January 8, 2010
Can we all just hang out sometime!? Such a great group of people with similar interests!!! =)

Amanda H. January 8, 2010
Yes, and we have an idea for this -- stay tuned!

AntoniaJames January 8, 2010
Speaking of hanging out, I'm planning a potluck for the SF Bay Area . . . will be in touch soon with those of you who contacted me last month, but would love anyone else who's joined since then, or is hearing about this for the first time, to contact me via "Send Me A Message" in my Profile. ;o)

In all seriousness (rare for me) I did attend the first Foodbuzz Festival which turned out to be like Sundance for food bloggers. I somehow captured Ryan Adams on my Flip video although we never met through the entire event. Found out afterwards. But I did meet a lot of really nice people there. Hell, I travel I meet people, I make friends. Sometimes I get to cook for them.

mariaraynal January 8, 2010
I love the idea of a food52 hang out event!

TheWimpyVegetarian January 8, 2010
So do I!! Sign me up!

Annelle January 8, 2010
How about 6 out of 7??
Or, how close to Brooklyn? I'm just a click away!!
I already have two non-paying food related jobs--my husband actually says it costs him more for me to work!--so another would be right down my alley!
Love the site...and if you need any help from SW VA let me know!

shayma January 8, 2010
what an utterly wonderful opportunity for someone keen on food and all its wonders. now if only i didnt have a demanding job. oh - and i didnt live in another country!

Marla January 8, 2010
Flexible, Foodie, Tweeter, Facebooker, Designer & Writer......Right here.
I am a born and bred New Yorker and not scared to share a good honest opinion. Always. Only thing is we live in SoCal now. Can we get creative to figure out if I could be right for the job?? This is a great opportunity. Perhaps I could be your west coast gal?
I love fabulous new opportunities and you guys have an excellent plan here. Thoughts?

Jim B. January 8, 2010
So wished I was near Brooklyn, it would be fun. But I love your site and the photo support is great.

CatherineTornow January 7, 2010
Pay no attention to the nay-sayers! This is a chance of a life time.

(Fair warning: you might be getting an email plea regarding the proximity of Dallas to Brooklyn.)

Erin J. January 7, 2010
Definitely an awesome opportunity!

mrslarkin January 7, 2010
Sounds fun! (Will work for food.)

pierino January 7, 2010
Will work for HOA fees.

pierino January 7, 2010
I can handle the hours part but I don't live in Brooklyn. I don't live anywhere really, but I do move around a bit and blog from far off locations like Chicago and Monterey and Staten Island. But I don't Twitter. That's part of my charm. I take notes in long hand too. My motto is speak softly but travel with a big, sharp knife. And a Flip camera.

Sarah S. January 7, 2010
Very mysterious, Pierino!

Amanda H. January 7, 2010
Ack -- that was actually me saying that. I was signed in as Sarah to fix a photo!

pierino January 8, 2010
I cover the waterfront.

LegalGourmet January 7, 2010
You may wish to review the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable state corollaries. You don't want to violate minimum wage laws.

Amanda H. January 7, 2010
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is an internship -- we're looking for someone who will see it as an opportunity. Also, we're really not sure how many hours it will take but we didn't want to underestimate.

AntoniaJames January 7, 2010
Actually, it's against the law to use unpaid interns in California, except in extraordinary circumstances, and then only if you jump through a bunch of hoops (typically, meeting certain requirements and implementing certain practices and conditions related to the services) . . . . I don't know about NY, but I do know that labor laws everywhere have gotten really tough. Your corporate counsel should be able to fill you in on this, and how to get around it. I'm a lawyer too but this is not legal advice . . . just chiming in that you need to consult someone qualified in this subject area, in your jurisdiction. Good luck! ;o)

Loves F. January 7, 2010
I feel like if it's just considered a volunteer position it shouldn't be an issue! I think it's a fantastic opportunity!

AntoniaJames January 7, 2010
That's the way it should be, but the laws are really tough and are getting more difficult all the time. I agree it's a fantastic opportunity. I'd grab it in a nanosecond if I weren't 2900 miles away, with clients to whom I've made commitments!

TasteFood January 7, 2010
Isn't San Francisco near Brooklyn?

Sarah S. January 7, 2010
Neighbors by sensibility.

Amanda H. January 7, 2010
That comment was from me (was signed in as Sarah to fix one of her photo credits).

Loves F. January 7, 2010
Wow! This is like my dream position...but alas, I'm in Seattle... and I need money for that many hours.

Amanda H. January 7, 2010
Nice to hear it would be your dream position.

johnsmith January 7, 2010
For real? 30 hours a week and no pay?

Amanda H. January 7, 2010
It's an internship (see revisions above) -- we're looking for someone who will see it as an opportunity. Also, we're really not sure how many hours it will take but we didn't want to underestimate.

Adriana January 8, 2010
Awww, if I hadn't already given my entire 2009 to the Brooklyn Food Coalition for free I would definitely be jumping on this! Check on all qualifications. Phooey. If you need someone for just 5 hours a week I'm yours ;)
