Like any good, regional delicacy, gelato sparks a fair amount of contention. Evidently, Arab invaders of western Europe have historically vied with Ancient Romans over who actually invented the creamy, frozen dessert. No one really knows for sure. What we do know for sure, though, is that gelato historians actually exist, and they will populate a soon-to-open gelato museum in Italy.

Ice cream lovers take note: the museum is slated to open in September, and among other gelato-related relics, it will house the first ever written recipe, and somewhere around 20 antique gelato machines. We may start petitioning for a stateside version.
