Help Celebrate Julia's 100th

July 16, 2012

She didn’t start cooking until she was 32. Up until then, as she liked to say, she just ate. This August 15th would have been Julia Child’s 100th Birthday, and in her honor, PBS Food is throwing a party. It’s an online party (good news: this means that wherever you are, you can go), and it’s fit for the woman who not only introduced French cooking to the American masses, but also coined words to live by. Point in case: she once said, “the only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook.” (We can’t argue with that.)

Shop the Story

Cook a Julia Child Recipe in her honor, read as top chefs and bloggers pay her tribute, and scour through the collection of video clips showing the master of French cooking doing her thing. We’ll meet you there on August 5th – we bet the cake is taken care of, but she probably wouldn’t mind another.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.
