Breaking The Waste Chain
Last week, pmurphy talked about our Green Guilt as consumers: most of it is due to food that we waste. Though we can certainly do a lot more to reduce waste in our daily lives, Grist reminds us that it is at every step of the process of how food gets to our plate that we run the risk of waste: from farming, to processing, to transport, and finally, to retail displays.
Those things may appear to be out of your control, but Grist presents some businesses that have significantly reduced their waste, like universities and large chain grocery stores. That change starts with us really rings true -- in everything from how we choose to run our small businesses to how much we choose to throw away on our dinner plate.
