How to Bake Bread Around a Campfire

September 26, 2012

We've given you the essentials for camping -- or as a loyal community member lovingly referred to it, "glamping" -- but now, we're really roughing it. This post shows how to make a simple Australian bread outdoors, around a campfire. On a stick. We're all for precision where it counts, but we love the idea of any recipe that has you measure out your flour in "coffee mugs".

Now gather your friends and your kindling -- you've got some dough to bake over an open fire.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.

Although we backpack and camp in the wilderness whenever we have the chance, I'm not waiting; I'm going to make these the next time we get a good fire going in our fire pit! (I'll work up an appetite in other ways, most likely with a harder-than-usual hike/run in a nearby redwood forest.) Thanks for posting this! ;o)
