Kickstarter Love: Let Us Compost
Each week in Kickstarter Love, Feed52 features a Kickstarter project that focuses on food and the community. Basically, it's about cool people doing cool things with food. This week, putting the compost out with the garbage.
We know Americans are entirely too wasteful. And we're working on it. But Let Us Compost of Athens, Georgia, is taking the problem into their own hands with a curbside compost pick-up service.
When their city's waste collecters didn't have the resources to provide the service to citygoers, Let Us Compost was created to fill the need. Just like a weekly garbage truck, they come by and collect the contents of a bucket they've provided, making it easy for your leftovers to become nourishing compost. And experience tells us that makes for some delicious garden produce.
It's a perfect solution for renters, apartment-dwellers, even restaurant owners and those who just don't have time to cultivate a compost pile. No pile of banana peels waiting for you to walk back to the pile, Let Us Compost (clever, right?) will do it for you. But they need some capital to buy larger bins and a truck to haul it all.
Your generosity won't go unawarded - you could get a t-shirt, a bumper sticker, or (the gift we're really eyeing) a bag of 100% organic compost.
