Baking, for many of us, is cathartic. The measuring, mixing, and waiting heals us and comforts us. We feel better after the cookies come out of the oven than we did before. Plus, there are cookies.

After her young son's cancer diagnosis in 2007, Gretchen Witt responded the only way she knew how: she began baking cookies. A lot of cookies. To raise funds for pediatric cancer research, she baked 96,000 cookies for a weeks-long bake sale that raised over $400,000. And so Cookies for Kids' Cancer was born.

Since then, Cookies for Kids' Cancer has inspired an army of cookie lovers to host bake sales across the country. And now, Gretchen has published All The Good Cookies, a cookbook that includes some of her favorite recipes. In honor of its publication, we've rounded up some of our favorite cookie recipes. We hope that they will inspire you to host a bake sale of your own -- or that you'll pick up a copy of Gretchen's new book (all royalties go to charity!). You can also donate directly on their website. Because children should be given a chance to grow and live, and cookies should be baked in abundance.
