To go with this week's Lemon, Thyme and a Grill contest theme (and everything else you'll be grilling all summer long), Sasha recommends a rich, ripe Grgich Hills Fumé Blanc from Napa Valley. You may remember the winemaker Mike Grgich for taking top honors in the historic 1976 Judgement of Paris, thus elevating the reputation of California wines.

And once again, it looks like Sasha's dog has been getting into the fumé blanc. It might finally be time to stage an intervention.

Your dog is hilarious! Also, loving all this history I'm reading about Grgich Hill wines and the winemaker. I'd never heard of it before and now I'm very intrigued, especially since there is a new grill in my immediate future and I have a feeling that will be my main method of cooking for the rest of the summer!

They're probably best known for their Chardonnay--and yes, a great story. Congrats on the new grill -- think either of these wines will go really well with fish and white meats on the grill, although the Chardonnay is apt to be a bigger wine and could stand up to something heartier (pork chops, etc.) Happy grilling!

I love Grgich Hill wines! Interesting, Mike Grgich (Miljenko Grgic) is from Croatia and is from a wine-growing family although he left in the late 50's I think. After their War for Independence he came back, started a new winery there, planted a bunch of vines on the Peljesac Peninsula along the Dalmatian Coast and is really helping to bring a lot of attention to Croatian wines. My husband and I drove past the winery last month when we were on vacation and it's stunningly beautiful. And the Croatians are sooo proud of him and his wine and so happy he's returned to make wine there too. He's a Very Big Deal there. They talk about the blind tasting contest in Paris that he won in the 70's like it just happened last week :-)

What a great vacation. Grgich is also very involved in an organization called Roots of Peace that transforms plots of land once riddled with mines into vineyards and farms. His life story is terrific (as are the wines!)

Abbie is a trusted source on General Cooking.

There is that drunken sunnysideup doggy again! I was laughing so hard at the paws waving around that I forgot to listen to what you were saying and had to play it over. Now I am going shopping!!!

Sorry for the distraction! Hope the canine comedy doesn't take away from the fact that this is a seriously good wine. Enjoy!
