I have 5 or 6 ounces of almond paste that has harden how can I get it soft again to use in cooking/

Take a small sauce pan, tip in water up to an inch, bring to simmer, place uncovered jar inside, wait ten minutes, paste will smoothen right up. Done.

Whatever liquid that the recipe calls for can be used to dissolve the almond paste. Alternatively, this is an instance where 30 seconds in a microwave can be very helpful
