Shrimp boils are one of those things I don't bother with complicated recipes. The Zatarain's "Crab Boil" (the bagged stuff, not liquid) is all you spice you need. And smoked sausage (I like Kilbassa), new potatoes, corn on the cob and shrimp.
Cut the susages into disks. Add one beer to the pot with juice of one lemon and cut up halfs, simmer that with the spice bag for about 10 mins---this will help extract all the flavor. Fill pot with water and recommended salt. Add sausages and boil. When the sausages float, add potatoes boil about 12 more mins, add corn shucked cut into thirds, boil until potatoes are tender. Add shrimp and cover and reduce to simmer for about 5 mins until the shrimp are cook. Drain and serve on newspaper in a large bowl.
Oh, I see the recipe and it's for 1..in that case the liquid is boil is acceptable. (I sill add beer and lemon tho (g)). Boil the sausages for about 10 mins. BTW: the shrimp are great the next day in a bloody merry.
