Q: When breaking the wishbone to see who gets the longer bit, do you recommend pulling from the bottom, middle, or top?

To be fair you have to pull from the bottom, so no one gets extra leverage. Also you're supposed to wait a few days until the wishbone has dried out so it breaks crisply.
