I want to go foraging for mushrooms. Does anyone know of any websites or contacts that offer this for a weekend day trip.

Head to mycophilia.com -- it's a great resource!

You don't say where you live, James Durazzo, but your instincts are right on. It's easiest to learn about mushrooming from direct contacts, and local info is especially important with mushrooms. Wherever you are, it's definitely possible to learn about a few delicious and safe mushrooms.

I live in Brooklyn, NY. I'm looking for someone who organizes a day trip.

Make sure before you eat mushrooms you collect that you ask someone who knows mushrooms to check them first!
