Classic but Exotic Vanilla Pudding

1/3 tsp Cardamon is about 2 pods cracked if I understand the conversion right? Can you just crack 2 pods and let them soak in the milk and then just strain them out with everything else? Seems like it would work but I'm not sure. I have whole green pods, but no ground, I may give it a shot and see how well/horrifying it comes out. If anyone with experience working with cardamon pods could give a hot tip on using Green pods effectively without overwhelming the dish that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

I make a rice pudding , and use cracked green cardamom pods and citrus peels to flavor it. I wrap the flavorings in a cheesecloth pouch and fish the whole little homemade bag out of the pudding after cooking. Nice subtle flavor and no stray seeds.
