What Susan said! It normally goes cloudy. As time passes a "lacy" residue will develop through the brine; that's ok. After they are finished curing, over a long stretch of time, the lemons and the brine will darken. All ok.
Cloudy is normal. The salt dissolves into the juice. The lemons keep releasing liquids, so that could be why it spilled over. I keep mine in a jar that clamps shut, so it doesn't overflow, but until I have used some of them, I open the jar over the sink. I also try to leave a little air space at the top when I shove the lemons into the jar.
You don't see any mold do you? You shouldn't if you didn't skimp on the salt.
