Substituting fresh mushrooms instead of dried in veggie gravy?

I'm making the Vegetarian Mushroom Thyme Gravy -- but I only have fresh 'shrooms. What will happen if I just sauté them to get out excess water, and use those instead? Is this doomed?

I always add extra fresh mushrooms. Slice and cook in butter or oil until all the liquid has evaporated, then proceed as usual.

I think that sounds like a good plan. In the comments of the recipe, AntoniaJames noted that she made with with "12 or so white mushrooms" and they "worked just fine."
