I have a pint of fresh cherries that have been soaking in 80 proof whiskey (unrefrigerated)for 4 months. Any reason they would be safe to eat?

Follow a tried and true recipe to preserve cherries and any other fruit. Just plunking them into a liquor, no matter how strong, is not a food safe approach. No amount of alcohol can kill off botulism, that's why you should follow a tried and true recipe, one that hopefully includes a water bath for the finished jars, and information on sugar and alcohol requirements.
