I'm an RI gal, but it's been a while for me too. I agree with Dagir on brunch at Castle Hill--you can't go wrong with that. As with any seaside town, there are lots of tourist traps on the water--good for your obligatory chowder and lobster, but don't expect to be blown away by the cuisine. If you want to get off the beaten path and eat where the locals eat, there are lots of fun and funky places on Broadway. Try Tucker's or Salvation Cafe--which are both fun and quirky with big flavors on their slightly hodge podge menus. Have fun, and drink a Dell's frozen lemonade for me!

My husband and I lived in RI many years ago while in graduate school. We spent a weekend in Newport last May and returned to Castle Hill, a place we fondly remembered for its spectacular views and delicious brunch. We were not disappointed. I would recommend asking for a window table (make a reservation) and plan your day accordingly so you can enjoy a leisurely brunch.

This is great! Looks like all of these places are still around. Thanks so much aargersi. I'll have a bowl of chowder for you!

Hey Midge! I hail from newport but it's been a LONG time - my dad always hung out at Zelda's on lower Thames - good food good bar. I worked at the Black Pearl hot dog stand in hig school, and in the tavern - good chowdah there. My parents also hung out at Christies, and The Mooring oh and what is that place out on ocean Drive - fancy - um Cliff House maybe ...
