Just discovered the fields in my backyard are completely covered with wild ramps. What's the best way to harvest them? Just pull 'em out?

Thanks! And yes, I was also thinking about how to harvest them and still make sure I wasn't harming next year's crop. I have no idea how one propagates ramps!

Jealous! I'm hoping the Farmer's Market has some tomorrow. I want to use them in a Squid Recipe for this week's contest. All you need is a good garden trowel to dig them out gently, but like any bulb, leave some so they propagate for next year.

If I brought my own long hand trowel . . .

Lucky dog! A long hand trowel also works well, or something similar that will gently break up the dirt around the bulbs.

You want to get down deep with your fingers. they tend to break if you just pull the top. A pitchfork helps, but don't get too agressive. leave some for next season.
