What cake to serve at a summer dessert party to celebrate a friend's marriage.

Looking for something pretty (with layers) and tasty. Already serving fruit served in the watermelon shell, chocolate mint brownies and peach ice cream. Any suggestions?

Sounds like an awesome party. Here are some options:

Was also going to suggest the Grown Up Birthday Cake. But then I might skip the brownies. Also this cake is good with summer fruits and would work well with the peach ice cream: http://www.food52.com/blog...

Oh you want layers, how about a delicious "Whipped Creme Caramel Cake" From Southern Living Magazine December 2008 Issue? It's incredibly delicious and a bit challenging, but one your guests wont forget. I have recipe if you cannot find. cakillgore@sbcglobal.net

Coconut cake or lemon cake. I'd recommend the one from Planter's Inn/Peninsula Grill in Charleston. They do not list their recipe anywhere online but surely you could find something similar. Or a strawberry cake with a little lemon zest??

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will definitely be trying some of them. For the party I went with a "lemon party cake"--white cake, lemon filling and whipped cream frosting. It was yummy and balanced out the other offerings. I appreciate all who share their thoughts with food pickle.
