I've made this with plain Greek yogurt instead of creme fraiche, and it worked really well. ;o)

Yes, it is creme fraiche -- you can buy it at many supermarkets (in the dairy section), or make it at home: http://www.seriouseats.com/2010/08/how-to-make-creme-fraiche.html

I believe that they meant "Creme Fraiche" which is a type of sour cream (just Google Creme Fraiche)
