A question about a recipe: Pasta with Roasted Beets and Beet Greens

I have a question about the recipe "Pasta with Roasted Beets and Beet Greens" from The Italian Dish.
It does not specify what to do with the pancetta prior to cooking. I assume it's to cut into small dice?
