What's the best way to freeze an unbaked pie with a cooked filling?

I'd like to leave a frozen apple pie behind as a thank you gift for our hosts. The filling is normally cooked on the stovetop for 10 or so minutes---will this affect how it freezes and reheats? Thanks!

To be honest, I would bake the pie off most of the way, then freeze it (as if you were parbaking rolls) and let your friends finish the baking just before serving/eating.
