Author Notes

My grandmother used to make this apple tart for us when we we're young. Itwas always one of my favorite deserts, and also the prettiest. I found it magical to see the apples "fanned" out over the yummy crust. —Cheryl Ludemann

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • Crust
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • cooking spray
  • filling
  • 4-5 large baking apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350* F. Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the rest of the crust ingredients, and mix just until the dough is combined and crumbly, but holds together. Lightly coat tart pan with cooking spray. Press dough onto bottom and up the sides of the pan. Set aside..
  2. Peel, half and core apples. Slice each half, vertically, into 1/8 inch slices, keeping the apple shape together. Fan apples over crust, starting on outside edge, and ending in the center, slightly overlapping. Combine cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle liberally over apples. Bake in 350* oven for about 30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
