Author Notes: I'm a sucker for old cookbooks. Found this lovely little one, Swedish Food, at the Pound Ridge Elementary School Pancake Breakfast Book Sale (now that's a mouthful.) Printed in 1960, it's the 12th edition. I've transcribed the recipe for Swedish Christmas Porridge below. —mrslarkin

- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup water
- 5 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Scald rice with boiling water.
- Melt half of butter, add rice and water and boil 10-15 min. or until water disappears.
