Author Notes

This drink was inspired by an Apple Cider martini I sampled at our local farmers market and the tradition of a neighbor who offers hot spiked cider to parents of trick or treaters. I tried mixing cold sweet cider with vodka, rum or bourbon. All were good but I liked the Maker's Mark bourbon version best. I used a little cinnamon syrup to add extra sweetness and spice. —JoanG

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • 1 shot glass of Maker's Mark bourbon
  • 4 ounces good local apple cider, best if unpasteurized
  • 1/2 shot of cinnamon syrup (like Torani or Monin)
  • 1 apple slice for garnish
  • ice cubes or crushed ice
Directions
  1. Mix bourbon, cider and syrup together in a cocktail shaker along with the ice cubes or crushed ice. Shake and strain into a glass.
  2. Garnish with apple slice. Sip, and enjoy giving out candy to the trick or treaters. I think this treat is better than candy!

I love food! I love to cook, eat, read about food, write about food, and enjoy meals with friends and family. I have been writing a food memoir for the past decade and am just about done! I epsecially love to create recipes using seasonal and local produce. I love to travel and wherever I go I shop at markets, cook, and try to take a cooking class.

This sounds so delicious! I tried making a cocktail once with apple cider but it didn't turn out so well, and have shied away from it since.

I typically have to plan for 300 trick or treaters. Even if I figure on one parent per kid, that's a LOT of bourbon!

Right up my alley. Although I'm strictly a Bourbon and Branch gal, I love bourbon and apple together. (Many apple desserts that I make include bourbon, some way or another.) Definitely trying this. ;o)

Thanks! I think you could also use maple syrup isntead of the cinnamon syrup and just sprinkle it with cinnamon, to bring in that great maple/apple combination.
