Author Notes

Most Sunday mornings my family wakes up to the smell of coffee cake baking in the oven. I love this recipe because it is not overly sweet and the warm apple slices baked inside shout “this cake is made with love” in every bite. The aroma of cinnamon and warm apples permeate throughout the house while we enjoy a lazy Sunday morning . Ask my family, they love waking up to the smell of scratch baking at its finest.

The first time I tried this cake was 10 years ago at a Womens’ Retreat and it is one of my most favorite and beloved coffee cakes. Everyone who tries it loves it and asks for the recipe. So if you ever find yourself waking up early on a Sunday morning, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and bake this cake, it just may become your favorite new coffee cake. —SavorySweetLife

The ratio apple to cake batter was way off which produced a really gummy texture. :(

Could you switch out the orange juice for apple juice? Wanting to make this but trying not to have to run to the shop!

Have made this a few times and it's delicious! I cut down the sugar to 3/4 of a cup in the flour mixture and about a 1/4 cup in the apple mixture and it's perfect for me!

P.S. I used sweet apples and used a lot less sugar, still tastes great! Thank you for the recipe!

Delicious! Does it keep well? I wondered if I could keep it out for more than a day...

This was glorious and easy to put together - I liked that the butter was melted and I didn't need to get out a mixer to make everything. I definitely like the tart apples instead of a super sweet one...and I think you cut back the amount of sugar a bit without risking the integrity of the cake batter. Will make again - thanks!

looks like a great recipe. I am going to substitute rhubarb and rhubarb puree for the apples.
