Here’s how to make a very good cocktail: Start with excellent mixers, add booze, and shake. Bittermilk is a Charleston company, started by bartenders, making Southern-inspired cocktail syrups and mixers. This set includes a Mason Shaker (a 32 ounce Mason jar with a metal cocktail shaker top), and three cocktail syrups:

• Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Fashioned: Strong and bittersweet, packed with old fashioned spices with bittering agents of cinchona bark and gentian root. Aged in Willett bourbon barrels for 30 days. One part mixer, 4 parts rye whiskey.
• New Orleans Style Old Fashioned Rouge: Strong and smoky with notes of citrus and honey and bittering agent of orange peel. Shake equal parts mixer and bourbon with lots of ice.
• Smoked Whiskey Sour: Strong and bittersweet with licorice and spice and bittering agents of wormwood and gentian root. Aged in Willett Family Reserve rye barrels. Stir one part mixer to 4 parts rye.
