Chicken

A Week in David Lebovitz's Paris Kitchen

May  2, 2014

All week long David Lebovitz -- professional cook, baker, and blogger -- has been sharing recipes from his new book, My Paris Kitchen. It's the last day to win one of six copies we're giving away --

Today: We're not ready to say au revoir to the week of food from the city of lights. So we're looking back at the French recipes David has been sharing all week.

This week, David Lebovitz transported us to Paris with recipes from his new cookbook, My Paris Kitchen: Recipes and StoriesHe showed us how to make a bistro classic at home -- and the proper, Parisian way to arrange our market vegetables (très chic, indeed). And, though the French rarely over-indulge, David admitted that it's nearly impossible for his favorite chicken recipe to yield more than one serving when he's around. The pièce de résistance? Individual chocolate cakes that look so good, we're looking for flights to France as we speak. We wish there were more recipes on their way to Food52 -- but, as they say, we'll always have Paris (and David's kitchen).

Most things are better when shared. But when I bring a pie to the office, I usually end up squirreling away the last slice for myself. For breakfast.

Shrimp baked in tomatoes. So easy but so elegant - sautee onions and garlic with salt and pepper, deglaze with white wine and cook down. Add a can of fire roasted tomatoes (28 oz). Simmer. Add feta and shrimp, bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Serve with bread.

Hailey Grace, that sounds divine. Definitely going to try it soon. ;o)

If I find a delicious bottle of red wine, perhaps a 2005 Mt. Veeder cab, then I will not share.....

Cindy L. May 5, 2014
No, no meal is too good to share as sharing creates that perfect meal.

CarlaCooks May 5, 2014
It's very hard to me to share a good bánh mì or the perfect scoop of lavender ice cream :)

Mulzee May 4, 2014
gnocco fritto... :)

SilverSage May 4, 2014
Duck Confit. I want my final meal to be duck confit - and I'm keeping it all to myself!

green garbanzo beans! apparently they are all the rage, and after sharing them with a dear friend a few days ago, i know why! i'm thinking i might get an order to go soon just for me!

Funny, the idea of NOT sharing feels pretty dang selfish! (Considering that Food52 is all about sharing, and I so appreciate that.) So I will share it anyways- grilled steak, with olive oil and lemon drizzle, grilled asparagus, good wine, flourless chocolate cake for dessert.
(Eaten outside, with a view of lovely Laughlin sparkling across the Colorado River.)

I have a hard time sharing my favorite roasted cauliflower with balsamic and Parmesan, but my husband is worth it.

Margaret May 2, 2014
Scallops with fava beans.

I recently made a Chinese Challah (with green onions) that I'm obsessed with - thanks to Molly Yeh! Could have eaten the whole loaf myself

I prefer not to share a good Salade Nicoise...when I can find one here. It makes me crazy to hear the servers say "Neece Wah salad" and takes all I have not to correct them!!

Miss H. May 2, 2014
Ooh. I can't share custard cream puffs. They're too delicious.

Samantha May 2, 2014
Can't share my creme brûlée!

summersavory May 2, 2014
My sister always says that she has two house rules: the first is, share food with your friends, and the second, except artichokes. I agree wholeheartedly: good artichokes are just too delicious to share :)

zEmfIrKa May 2, 2014
I usually don't mind sharing my recipes - I get so excited about food that I want it shared and enjoyed by everyone. But my mother-in-law's famous apple pie is absolutely delicious and it's a secret family recipe. :)

ATG117 May 2, 2014
Always ready to share.

Spicy Indian prawn (shrimp) curry with white rice, and puréed Japanese sweet potato mixed with sweetened milk

Yum!

Roasted cauliflower from Girl and the Goat. It's disgusting how quickly I can clean the plate.

Franny K. May 2, 2014
Gnocchi with cauliflower and orange at Bar la Grassa in Minneapolis. Don't even try to steal a bite from my plate.

katie B. May 2, 2014
oooh I love sharing meals too much so that everyone can try a bit of everything- I always get food envy! haha but my absolute favourite is a chocolate salted caramel tart with hazelnut ice cream- one of my favourite recipes and definitely not one for sharing! x

Rita S. May 2, 2014
I don't keep recipes secret, but everyone loves my chili (without beans-I'm Texan), cornbread, and cream cheese poundcake.

deedee1200 May 2, 2014
Zuni's roast chicken bread salad! Even though I make a whole chicken, I still don't like sharing any of it...

sarabclever May 2, 2014
I'm usually happy to share, unless it's the last piece!

dana May 2, 2014

SallyM May 2, 2014

FJT May 2, 2014
I'll share most things (I like to play nice!) ... but don't get between me and any meringues ... they're mine!!

All food that comes from my kitchen is meant to be shared with loved ones. But sometimes I will keep a cook's treat for myself in the kitchen and will eat it when no one's watching -- the crispy skin from roast salmon, an extra neck bone from my Sunday Pork Ragu, the last sliver of cake from the cake plate. . . I could go on. :)

J_McCrory May 2, 2014
There are a couple top secret, old family recipes that shall be served but never divulged!

Hgranger May 2, 2014
Anything involving lobster

mikomiao May 2, 2014
We make a 5 course Vietnamese feast including 5 spice quail and tamarind crab when we have friends over, and it is almost too good and too personal to share the recipes. But what's food about if not for sharing?

JudyH May 2, 2014
Half the enjoyment of eating is sharing the food. That said, I have been known to hoard fancy chocolates.

Julie K. May 2, 2014
No, I'm happy to share my recipes!

marymary May 2, 2014
I generally share, however, there might be risk of limb if you try to sneak my Lobster Thermidor. You've been warned.

EmFraiche May 2, 2014
pretty much any dessert =)

sexyLAMBCHOPx May 2, 2014
No, I gladly share everything

amber W. May 2, 2014
I have a tendency to completely hoard my chocolate chip cookies! I actually have been know to devour all of them before anyone else walked into the kitchen! All that's left is the tantalizing scent of homemade cookies....and crumbs

pandapotamus May 2, 2014
No! Once I find a fabulous recipe, I can't wait to make it for friends and family.

AntoniaJames May 2, 2014
By the way, when did Paris become "the eternal city?" Isn't Rome the eternal city, and Paris, the city of lights (or the city of love)? ;o)

Julie M. May 2, 2014
Hi there, Yes! You're right -- must have had pasta on the brain. Thanks for pointing that out :)

AntoniaJames May 2, 2014
"Too good to share?" That's not a concept I understand (or embrace). Can you rephrase the question? (Spoken like a true lawyer . . . .) ;o)

Jenali May 2, 2014
I have a recipe for honey wheat rolls which taste delicious. I do get a little upset when I don't get to eat the last roll however, I'm happy that everyone else enjoys them so much.

Margit V. May 2, 2014
No, I firmly believe in sharing. Isn't that one of the missions of Food 52?
