11 Cakes for a Celebration

August  4, 2014

Save the peach crumbles for later this month, and the snacking cakes and quick breads for another day -- this week calls for a celebration, and a show-stopping cake to boot. Last summer, we introduced Provisions -- an online source for unique kitchen and home goods. One hundred twenty-eight beautifully curated collections later, Provisions is turning one, and we couldn't be happier. As it's grown, we've grown with it, spanning our reach to artisans and small batch producers across the country with the goal of creating better kitchens for all.

A milestone as big as this calls for a cake just as grand. We'll settle for nothing less than a cake layered with buttercream (or maybe even ice cream) and covered in thick swirls of frosting -- the type of cake we only bring out once a year. So for the Leos, general cake lovers, and everyone who has welcomed our provisions into their homes and kitchens, these cakes are for you. Celebrate accordingly

There is a big rule of thumb when it comes to any food: you first eat with your eyes. That said, I think some cooks here need to work on their presentation, because I am not persuaded to look up any of these recipes. Sorry.

Sorry, I meant 7 out of 11 cakes are chocolate. Another great chocolate cake on food52 website is the "One Bowl Chocolate Cake."

Interesting article! I love the Sweet Cream Bundt cake and the banana cake. I have not tried the others yet. But with 7 out of 10 cakes being chocolate cakes, article should have been rewritten with a different title like "The best Chocolate Cakes. D)
