Our Favorite Food52 Photos from 2014

December 27, 2014

As editors, we live and breathe Food52. We’re in it every day: perusing the new articles, shooting the new recipes -- we’re cooking and writing and editing. So you’d think we’d be immune to our own photos by now -- or at least used to them.

We’re not. We still walk into the studio and gape at what another editor has styled; we ooohh and we ahhh; and when we’re tasked with coming up with a list of some of our favorites from the past year, we spend a week looking through the photo archives, falling in love with these photos all over again.

Here, then, are the ones that speak to us -- but the list goes on and on. And while we’d love to take all the credit, we’d be remiss not to call out the wonderful photographers who contributed to this list: James Ransom, Mark Weinberg, and Eric Moran. (Inspired by any of the photos in particular? Click through on the image to get to the recipe or article where it was first featured.)

Take a look, then let us know your favorites in the comments. We could do this all day.

I have a thing for most foods topped with a fried egg, a strange disdain for overly soupy tomato sauce, and I can never make it home without ripping off the end of a newly-bought baguette. I like spoons very much.

gorgeousness all of em!! love the light on the early arugula asparagus pesto-y image. the caul is so good and unexpected. both the elemental hands images….*love*… and that julep: #bestmintever.

Led Zeppelin said "Whole lot a love" and I agree 100%. Everything looks fantastic.

There are some truly beautiful photos on this site, which are art by themselves but also bring an additional dimension to the recipe. As anyone who has worked in media production knows, many hands go into the making of a photograph... the photographer, editor, stylists, graphic arts staff, the person who makes the most subtle tweak. I think this site does a wonderful job with integrating art and the mechanics plus intuitive aspects of cooking.

Love the pears!

So many favorites but if I must narrow it down then Apple Cider Pie and a Spoon for Every Pear are top on my list. Great that you compiled them for a repeat sneekpeek!

I thought that was caul. And I too love the photo. But I am also minimalist and like the red drink with cherry.

Luv the crepinette picture. Remember reading Jane Grigson describing it was beautiful and lacy long before I ever laid eyes on it. Much better than describing it as the tissue that surrounds the intestines!
