What Goes Together Like Eggs, Broccoli, and Oranges?

If you like reading what Amanda feeds her kids, you'll love taking a look into what other people -- both in the food world and the world at large -- prepare for their own children (and occasionally their signifcant others and maybe even their pets). Prepare to be either resentful or appreciative of your own parents.

Today's lunch comes from Dan Saltzstein, dad of Anna and an editor at The New York Times Travel section.

Nothing goes together like scrambled eggs, broccoli, and orange wedges, amirite? Okay, perhaps not, but they are all items that Anna, my 2 1/2-year-old daughter, will happily eat. (She's fed at preschool on weekdays, so weekend lunches are a special occasion of sorts.)

The eggs were scrambled with some chopped cheddar cheese ("cheesy eggs" is one of my favorite phrases in the English language) and salt -- no pepper, lest Anna complain that "there are ants in the eggs." (Note to self: Get some white pepper.) The broccoli florets were steamed; I must admit that having a toddler has opened me up to the joys of simply steamed veggies. And we've been reveling in winter citrus -- mostly clementines, but in this case navel oranges, which were juicy enough to run down Anna's chin and stain her shirt. A stain of pride, I say.
