March 19, 2015

Inspired by conversations on the Food52 Hotline, we're sharing tips and tricks that make navigating all of our kitchens easier and more fun.

Today: Don't fight with your mango -- or waste any of its fruit. Instead, Katie Quinn shows us an easy, foolproof way to peel a mango.

Shop the Story

We already know that mango is delicious -- whether in pickle, salad, drink, frozen, or naked form. Peeling them, on the other hand, is not as universally loved. Luckily, there's a trick that's as easy breezy as the islands where these sunny fruits are grown. As video journalist and food enthusiast KatieQ shows us, all you need is a knife and a cup. You'll be eating a lot more mango just to show off this party trick.

Tell us, how do you like to eat mango?

I can improve on this- Use a martini shaker- more like knife than a glass- Wish I could sell this idea. Mangoes now 10/$1 !!!

A big spoon also does the job.

Avocado -- so smart!

I have a mango right now I'm avoiding because I dread the peeling. Seems like I always end up with about 15% of the mango's weight left to eat. Will try today... and report back how successful it was.

One of our editors tried this a few days ago, and she's hooked! Definitely let us know.

Yep! That's me! I've done it twice, and it's worked very well both times. After I'm finished scooping, I like use my teeth to scrape off any remaining flesh from the mango skin :)

It worked! Quite well. I did it on both big sides I cut and the little sides. Mangos still have a huge inedible part though, who made those things? Glad to know about this trick.
