The Pancake Pizza Bagel (!!!): The Best Way to Celebrate February 9

February  9, 2016

While today might just be February 9th to you, for people all over the country, this is no ordinary Tuesday.

Because on this holy day falls not only National Pizza Day, but National Bagel Day too. And if that weren't enough to make your heart flutter, it's also Shrove Tuesday, a.k.a. Pancake Day.

We figured that these three holidays should not compete for attention but, rather, work together for the happiness of all.

And so, the pancake pizza bagel (you can call it the P.P.B. for short) was invented.

It's simple, really:

  • Start with the pancake: Use your favorite batter and add Parmesan, chives, and black pepper. Make some pancakes, which leads us to...
  • The bagel: Cut a hole in the center of the pancake and mix together Ali's DIY everything bagel seasoning (sesame seeds, salt, fennel seeds, and red pepper flakes). Then:
  • Make it a pizza: Top the bagel-pancake with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and torn basil. Cover the pancake pizza bagel with foil and a lid and let the cheese melt. Then add the everything bagel spice. That's it!

You may not have known it was a triple whammy "national holiday" when you woke up today—but now you're probably really, really happy that you can eat this for dinner tonight (and breakfast tomorrow).

Tell us: Is a pancake pizza bagel the best way to celebrate today? Or is a bagel pizza pancake or a pizza pancake bagel the better way to go?

I used to work at Food52. I'm probably the person who picked all of the cookie dough out of the cookie dough ice cream.

You could have put ashes on top of compost with boiling tar sauce and it would have been better than the Mountain Dew abomination which must not be named.
