What No Kid Hungry is Doing in the Wake of Hurricane Harvey

September  5, 2017

It’s been over a week since Hurricane Harvey first made landfall, yet the natural disaster’s effects continue to be felt by residents of Houston and southeast Texas. The superstorm that dropped up to 44 inches of rain in parts of the city has left many houseless, hungry, and in need of help.

With its No Kid Hungry campaign, Share Our Strength is stepping up to help by donating $300,000 to relief efforts in Houston. The DC-based organization has pledged $50,000 of those funds to the Houston Food Bank, a nonprofit that works to eradicate hunger on a local scale by providing 83 million meals to 800,000 people each year. In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the organization is in dire need of funds to ensure that Houston families in need get water, food, and supplies.

No Kid Hungry and Food52 have a special relationship—with the help from our community, we chose them as the charity we would partner with this year. So far, we've planned a bake sale and hosted a live bake-off in support of their cause. Their contribution to the Harvey relief efforts and the Houston Food Bank is just one of the ways they're helping to fight childhood hunger, and the Food52 community can help them on this quest.
