The One Thing Julia Child & Guy Fieri Have in Common

June 26, 2018

At first glance, you might think Julia Child and Guy Fieri don’t have much in common. Which in many ways is kinda, really, very true.

  • One made their television debut in the 1960s, the other in the 2000s.

  • One introduced America to French cooking techniques they could recreate at home, the other to the fried and frittery fast food of the American highway.

  • One opts for simple button-downs, the other prefers flame-adorned ones.

  • One wore their hair in soft curls, the other bleached and spiked.

While they might have existed decades apart, in vastly different circles of gastronomy, they’re both icons in the world of media. They've opened the eyes of Americans to entire realms of food and cooking. And this week, they’re both being honored together: On Monday, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Guy Fieri and Julia Child will receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The two personalities are listed amongst a slew of media professionals and artists who will earn themselves a coveted star on Hollywood Boulevard. Just a few of the others include Robert De Niro (finally!), Anne Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis, my queen), Alvin and the Chipmunks (amazing), P!nk (an early aughts icon), Judith Light (love), Cedric the Entertainer (about time!), Guillermo del Toro (so well-deserved) and Lupita Nyong’o (a goddess amongst us).

Vin Di Bona, the current chair of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, released the following statement: “The Committee always tries to select a group of talented honorees that appeal in various genres of the entertainment world. I feel the Committee has outdone themselves and I know the fans, tourists and the Hollywood community will be pleased with our selections. We are excited to see each and every honoree’s face as they unveil that majestic star on Hollywood’s most famous walkway.”

It’s great to see food celebrities listed up there with some of entertainment’s greatest. Wolfgang Puck also has a star on the walk. It's high time some more join him.
