One for dinner, and one for dessert.

Take a break from all that apple picking for a hot sec. We have some big news for you.

Last time we talked contest, we were filling you in on the top five contenders for our current showdown, Your Best Recipe With Apples. Then we skipped back into the test kitchen with our peelers (sharp sides down, of course) for another round of trials. We put an ear to the orchard-floor ground for your feedback. And we did lots of taste-testing.

Now, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to our top two finalists:

It's a battle of the courses: Dinner versus dessert. Savory versus sweet. A roast-y, cheesy salad that screams "fall vibes" versus a cozy, streusel-y cake with brown sugar mascarpone cream to boot. But just because they're in a face-off with one another doesn't mean you can't try both! In fact, that's highly encouraged.

After leaving ample congrats in the comments for What We Eat Gals and Laura Edgerton, go check out both recipes. Then head over to our contest page to vote. You have from now until November 8 at 12 PM EST to cast your click. On November 9, we’ll shout the winner from the rooftops.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Please congratulate our finalists in the comments!

This is the first time Food52 has let me down. I was originally not going to post anything about the apple streusel, but realised that others might want to know. It was more like a wannabe gingerbread dough with apples that were ruined by lemon.

I was surprised at the winner choice . I truly thought a dessert would be the winner. I had over 20 people save my recipe . I am encouraged to continue to participate . Thanks , Karen DiFabio

These were both SO GOOD—I'm definitely going to add the salad to my Thanksgiving menu!
